I mean, the people Mark names are all bordering on old-fogeydom (apologies to all and sundry, but there it is). In fact, if you see a "contingent poetry revival" I'd love to hear about who's doing what. I only sketch this out as a future I'd hope to see, and as one potential possibility among all of the various poetic energies out there.

Bob ArchambeauArchambeauhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17273511539172747550noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11295909.post-1119546221567369502005-06-23T13:03:00.000-04:002005-06-23T13:03:00.000-04:00Oops, I did it again...Oops, I did it again...Mark Scrogginshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01431113440875342809noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11295909.post-1119540063584842562005-06-23T11:21:00.000-04:002005-06-23T11:21:00.000-04:00That's Britney with one T, one T!That's Britney with one T, one T!A. There's a burst of such writing after WW 1, another after WW 2 (maybe the same, just lasting), and another that hums along to Hendrix during 'Nam. Isn't the new itch to read and write poems that engage with history, and place, and the "pressure of the social" (or whatever Robert's phrase was) really an itch in some younger, post-avant parts to feel like they're doing something, well, important, after 9/11?

We are, when last I checked, at war, and odds are we will be for the foreseeable future. Sounds like a CDR moment to me.

Maybe we should add Peter Dale Scott to that list of yours, Mark. (Not that I've read him, just heard the name--but maybe it's time I checked him out.)

As for "from the warring factions," which I had the pleasure of teaching when it first came out, I'll post something of my own as soon as I can get to it. There's a short post on "L'Affaire Alcalay" over at A Big Jewish Blog already.

EE. M. Selingerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00426524354823232002noreply@blogger.com
