Like any good concept, it leaves you thinking 'wow, that's obvious, I just wouldn't ever have thought of it'.

I like the idea of teaching genealogies too but it seems that like real genealogies they will only ever be invoked when they confer symbolic power upon their owner. It seems a pity. We would all have a better understanding of our ideas and our approaches to teaching if we bothered to look at how we've learned, and who we've learned from, in a systematic wayEddie Brennanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02280195483974926010noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11295909.post-87926021857135819412011-01-23T12:54:49.917-05:002011-01-23T12:54:49.917-05:00This comment has been removed by the author.Eddie Brennanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02280195483974926010noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11295909.post-46188068245540800832011-01-20T13:25:24.526-05:002011-01-20T13:25:24.526-05:00Just FYI, the essays by O'Leary and Tuma are n...Just FYI, the essays by O'Leary and Tuma are now in PDF at the CR website.

http://humanities.uchicago.edu/orgs/review/

KentKent Johnsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15233688630151467658noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11295909.post-49538857572094595422011-01-11T15:30:38.296-05:002011-01-11T15:30:38.296-05:00"The" "thing" "about"..."The" "thing" "about" "the" "Old" "Boys" "was" "the" "lack" "of" "scare" "quotes."Archambeauhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17273511539172747550noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11295909.post-29020979584708127432011-01-11T10:45:45.801-05:002011-01-11T10:45:45.801-05:00the 'thing' about "the old boys"...the 'thing' about "the old boys"
is
that they knew their craft

I mean

Howard Nemrov COULD
turn a phrase...
and

Bill Stafford ... no 'slouch' either...

there is much more to this "game" than just a click-of-the-mouse!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11295909.post-81670969618480994142011-01-11T09:13:18.334-05:002011-01-11T09:13:18.334-05:00I used to own a little pamphlet from the early six...I used to own a little pamphlet from the early sixties called something like "A Guide to the New Criticism." It started with a chart linking the luminaries by just the kind of genealogy you describe. Wish I could dig it up -- we could start a site like Ancestry.com and map the whole scene. Then we'd have to start another site like Foetry to chart all the old-boy nepostism.Archambeauhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17273511539172747550noreply@blogger.com
